PDF illustrations are in the FAQs how-to section. Follow these steps for placing numbers and stickers:
Latex Swim Cap - Wear it on your head, no numbers allowed.
Body Marking - We will NOT use body marking tattoos. With a timing chip on your ankle, stickers on your bike and helmet, and a run bib, it's unnecessary. We will only mark a T (Tri), R (Relay), D (Du), or A (AquaBike) on your left calf, plus your age on your right calf. You can do this with a Sharpie before the race, during arrival, or in transition using Sharpies provided. Please return the Sharpie (cap on) and help others as needed.
Helmet Sticker - Place it front and center on your helmet.
Bike Frame Stickers - Attach them to the outside left and right of your bike’s seat post, or on the fork if unable. They must be clearly visible from either side.
Run Bib Number - Wear it during the run only, facing forward and unobstructed. We recommend a race belt instead of safety pins.
Remember, to claim your bike post-event, present your bib number to our crew, matching the numbers on your bike and helmet.

Headphones of any kind and speakers are NOT ALLOWED. No exceptions. Violation of this rule is grounds for IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFICATION as it endangers those around you and can impede race operations.

The following are prohibited for use in any USA Triathlon sanctioned race:
a. Headphone(s), headset(s), technical earplug(s) or smart helmets which are inserted or covering the ears.
b. Communications devices of any type when used in any distractive manner.
A “distractive manner” includes but is not limited to making or receiving phone calls, sending or receiving text messages, playing music, using social media, taking photographs or using in a one- or two-way radio communication.
Devices include but are not limited to cell phones, smart watches and two-way radios. Possession and use of communication devices for navigation, tracking or data recording purposes is permitted.
In essence, you CAN have your phone with you, but it cannot be used for any purpose other than as a data tracking device, or as a means of contacting authorities in the event of an emergency.

Your timing chip has loops on each side.
• Unvelcro the ankle strap and thread the black velcro through both chip holes.
• Ensure the velcro goes behind the chip as you connect it.
• After connecting, attach the velcro to the ankle strap on your left ankle.
• Confirm that the strap and chip are secure; a proper fit allows for two fingers between your ankle and the strap. For added security, use a small safety pin to reinforce the connection.
• Attach it to the left ankle to prevent contact with the bike’s right crank.

Wear whatever you like during the race, as long as it’s appropriate. Females must cover their tops and bottoms, while males need to cover at least their bottoms. For bottoms, we recommend a swimsuit or tri shorts. Many choose a two-piece or full tri suit for the race; these outfits are tight, reduce drag in the water, are aerodynamic on the bike, and allow maximum movement during the run while drying quickly afterward.
-
USAT rules state that competitors may wear wetsuits if the water temperature is 78 degrees or lower. USAT rules also state that if the water temperature is between 78.1 and 83.9 degrees, competitors may wear wetsuits but will NOT be eligible for awards. This includes shorts made of neoprene.
This race is usually between 80 and 82 degrees making wetsuits not legal if you want to compete for awards but legal if you do not care about awards. We did have one year that wetsuits were legal overall with water under 78 degrees.

The swim starts with running or walking into deep water. Most can touch the bottom for the first 100 to 125 meters until the first green turn buoy is reached. We recommend starting to swim when the water reaches mid-thigh to waist-deep, as swimming is easier than walking at that depth. The distance from the first to the second turn buoy is about 250 meters, water depth is over your head at a depth of 7 to 10 feet, depending on the tide. After reaching the last green turn buoy and heading back to shore, the water gradually shallows until the beach exit, allowing you to stand in waist-deep water about 50-75 meters out.

1/4-mile. Read more on this in the next question below.
-
From the swim start/exit to your bike, it is about a quarter-mile. The city has laid a soft sand path from the paved road to the swim start/exit, so going barefoot is possible without debris. However, this distance may be challenging on your feet, depending on sensitivity. If concerned, bring old disposable shoes or sandals to leave at the swim exit. We recommend against using the same shoes for the run. The swim exit shoes should be ones you're okay discarding. Any leftover shoes will be thrown away or donated. Also, there are pools of water on the road to rinse off the sand from your feet as you run to transition.
-
We will email you your assigned number prior to the race. When you enter transition race morning you will look for the row that contains your number sticker. That is your spot in transition. You must keep everything within that area during the race.
